Frictape Landing Net was selected on the platform because its main product characteristics.

Non-stretch material, unknotted structure, ease of fitting, and longevity are the main product features described by Mr. Nigel Parfoot from Chevron Erskine Materials who together with the rest of the operations team decided to go for Frictape. Mr. Parfoot highlights that all the mentioned characteristics are important especially in a remotely controlled platform.

“The Frictape Landing Net can easily be installed by one person, which would be impossible to do with a traditional rope net, and once installed and tensioned, it retains its shape indefinitely, which is a real asset for an unattended platform,” continues Mr. Parfoot.

After the positive experience of Frictape Landing Net, also the helideck perimeter netting was changed to Frictape. “The Frictape net is ideal for the situation at Erskine, and when it was time to replace the helideck perimeter net, it made sense to use the same product,” explains Mr. Parfoot for selecting also Frictape Perimeter Nets.

“Perimeter net testing is straightforward, we send in a sample that has been exposed to the weather for the same duration as the net and get the results back promptly. This is a much better system than the old way of throwing weights into the net!”, Nigel Parfoot explains.

Frictape Perimeter Nets were installed to Fugro Synergy in January 2015. Two Frictape service technicians completed the installation in 4 working days in Tuzla, Turkey. Job included removal of the old helideck perimeter nets and installation of new Frictape nets.

“The weather always provides us with some extra challenge, but we managed to complete the job in just 4 working days despite rainy and windy conditions,“ describes Mr. Koiso-Kanttila.

Frictape designed and manufactured Perimeter Safety Nets for Mermaid Siam with a very fast schedule in September 2014. The whole process from the design to the delivery from Finland to United Arab Emirates was completed in two weeks.

Mermaid Siam is a DNV Classed DP2 construction support barge featuring an IMCA-compliant 10-man single bell saturation diving system rated to 300m water depth. The vessel currently operates in the Middle East Region.

In September 2014, Mermaid Siam was in an urgent need for replacing its helideck perimeter nets. Frictape sales team replied to the request quickly, and with a help from the vessel, Frictape designed and manufactured Perimeter Safety Nets  for Mermaid Siam with a very fast schedule in September 2014. The whole process from the custom-made nets to the finished product delivery from Finland to United Arab Emirates was completed in two weeks.

Mr. Pablo Silva, Mermaid Siam Chief Officer, describes:  “We had a great response and support from the Frictape team during all the project, specially because our project was done in a extremely short notice.”

Mr. Silva had heard about Frictape Perimeter Nets from a colleague who had previous experience with this type of netting. Through Frictape website, Mr. Silva was able to gain more information about Frictape and to compare it with other net types.  Frictape industry certifications and global customer base supported also Frictape selection; “Because of the fact that the product is properly supported by different Classification societies (as DNV) and after made a research, it was found that the netting is widely used in the offshore industry,” explains Mr. Silva the selection. “I would definitely recommend Frictape to other helidecks, after been dealing with other kind of net mesh (e.g. wire mesh), we found that the product is way better than any other type” he concludes.

Mr. Silva had also familiarized himself with Frictape Testing Services and commented: “Another great advantage of Frictape is that the “drop test” is not necessary as the manufacturer is able to provide a “sample breaking test” for the netting on yearly basis by using the samples attached to the delivered product.”

In January 2014, four Frictape Service Technicians installed both Frictape Perimeter Nets and Landing Nets on board sister vessels MSV Fennica and Nordica. Installation of the Frictape netting was completed in total of five working days in icy cold conditions in Helsinki and Inkoo, Finland.

MSV Fennica and Nordica are two Finnish landmark multipurpose ice breakers which are specialized in working in the Arctic waters. In the summer, these vessels ensure safe operations in the offshore oil- and gas fields in various parts of the world.

“That was the coldest weather in which we have ever installed our nets! Frictape products are built to last even in the most extreme conditions so people working for Frictape need to be as tough.”

Despite harsh conditions, Master of Fennica Ms. Hanna Kujala describes the installation work smooth and efficient. She also appreciated that Frictape Service Team had their own PPE and fall protection gear with them when working on helidecks.

In addition to hassle-free installation, Ms. Kujala explains that the vessels’ staff chose Frictape products because of their easy maintenance and testing service available. Frictape Nets’ good quality, reliability, and acceptance by industry standards were important criteria for selecting Frictape products on multi-purpose ice breakers operating globally.

The new Frictape Perimeter Safety Nets where recently installed in a very timely manner to Seajacks Zaratan – led by Frictape technician Jonathan Brundle.

Seajacks Zaratan is a jackup where we installed new Perimeter Safety Nets, work was led by our technician Jonathan (Johnny) Brundle.

We visited Transocean Corcovado in January 2019 to carry out helideck friction testing.  The deck was recently surfaced with new high friction coating and as it often happens with profiled aluminium helidecks, it did not meet the friction requirements when we tested it. In cooperation with the crew, our technician carrying out the friction testing and Frictape team at the office, we found ways to further treat the surface to meet the friction requirements. Afterwards we received this nice message:
